Physical, Mental and Spiritual stretches - Day 75/ #100DaysofMentalHealth

Pigeon Pose
Good morning beautiful people,

Hope you had a lovely weekend.

Allow me to get all activist in your face; World Health Organization states that health isn't just about the physical but also social and mental. Well I have been doing loads of stretches; physical, mental and spiritual.

My physical stretches have been yoga based ‎with my best so far being the pigeon pose.

...and because I am queen of challenges (or rather queen of making almost everything a challenge), my Yoga Challenge for the year is to get to a handstand which is not really about the handstand but the journey to it(right now I am still sitting, haven't left the ground, the goal is for everything except my palms to be on the ground...we shall overcome, right?)

Spiritually I have been on amazing journey, doing meditation and speaking Bible verses back to myself and God, I am also really digging into the book of Revelation which is a MUST read for everyone (they lied about the 'scary stuff', this book is about unfolding and revealing so so just have to read it to get it). I will be taking a break from it to do my annual Lent digging...Every year, I use the 40 days of Lent (which begins this Wednesday) to do The purpose driven life book by Rick Warren.

This year I am extending the invitation to anyone who'd like to join me in doing the book. Use the tab on the side to let me know if you want to join in, also let me know what your lent plans are, if you have any aaaaand how you are stretching/ challenging yourself.

PS: Stretches and challenges are good, they help us grow, help us discover part of ourselves we didn't know about (both yoga and reading through the book of Revelation make me ache in places I never knew existed). Don't be in a rush to get to the next step or in the pain, sometimes listening to your body saying enough for today, sometimes sweet talking it to hold on just a little is not a race, it is a journey, it is real, it is present, be open, be true

(Side note - Last year during my month long USA speaking tour I had the chance to attend service at his church)

F E L L O W S H I P ::: Day 19/ #100DaysofMentalHealth is about #fellowship. (Spoiler Alert; this is another long #dreamscometrue post) I have been following the work Pst Rick Warren (@PastorRickWarren - You might know him from Purpose Driven Life books) and his wife have been doing in the #mentalhealth field ever since they went public about their son's #suicide ...we rarely see (or hear) the church speak openly about mental health, suicide or #depression and if they do, it's not as matters that need treatment and community... having faced my own share of being told maybe my faith ain't strong enough or that I have a spirit by the church (blogged about all these last year), I was excited to learn about their work in starting these conversations in church. They have this #mentalhealth conference lined up in October and before my speaking tour began, I tweeted that I'd like to come to @Saddlebackchurch for it if I had the is not October but I had #fellowship at the place I wished id be in 3 months from now. Interestingly @derwinlgray was the guest speaker and he also mentioned about #mentalhealth activities his church is doing... it's amazing how God saw it best for me to be here now and hear that it is possible to have these conversations and awareness done from the pulpit. I am hoping to attend one of mental health meetings before I leave to learn a thing or two in starting such meets up in places of worship which most of the times are people's places of refuge but if they don't have the right information become places to torture and self doubt. When people are suffering due to their mental health conditions all they need is #fellowship and community around them and the church has a big role to play in all this. #mentalhealth #mymindmyfunk #mentalhealthblogger #wellness #wellnessblogger #mentalhealthmatters #mentalwellness #MentalHealthWithoutBorders #femprenuer #AfroBlogger #SitawaTravels #Wanderlust #TravelNoire #MMMFInvadesUSA #KenyanBlogger #AfricanBlogger #blogger #MMMFInvasion #purpose #community #conversation #purposedrivenlife #noirbnb #churchgirl #GodAboveItAll #dreamscometrue
